Saturday, March 1, 2008 was the day everyone has been waiting for! Kay was officially discharged from Mt. Sinai! The hard work she and Devin and their families have put in has really paid off. You should have seen the smiles on everyone's faces!
Kay was able to pack up her stuff and leave her room at Mt. Sinai for good and boy was she excited! The day before when she received her discharge papers she read everey word to be sure nothing would keep her from leaving the next day.
For now Kay and Devin will be staying in with Devin's mom and Kay will be attending the outpatient program at Mt. Sinai. What progress this is!
Not only has Kay's physical condition been improving but her memeory is also getting much better. Kay says she feels as if a light turned on two weeks ago. You can see it in her eyes too, more and more of her personality shines through everyday. It's amazing! She has a much better memory than she has in the past 4 months and can recall things from the past 2 weeks that she was not previously able to.
Kay is also able to understand her accident and her current condition much more. While she can't wait until she and Devin can be back in their own house getting on with their lives she understands that for now she needs to continue her physical therapy. Kay does believe (and is probably) correct that her memory and her physical injuries will show great improvement now that she has left the hospital. She thinks that now that she will be able to do more things on her own she will be able to work her right arm and leg much more. She also thinks that her memory will be stimulated more now that she is not spending all the time she is not in therapy in the same hospital room. Kay was becoming bored because the days seemed to run together, hopefully the days will all seem a bit different to her now and improve her memory.
We're all so excited for Kay, Devin & their familes. Kay has really come a long way in the past 4 months and she never gives up! She's a real inspiration!
Kay could not have come this far without everyone's wonderful thoughts and prayers. We'll continue to keep you updated, please continue to support Kay Maybe soon we can even have Kay do some blog entries...might be a good physical therapy exercise.

She's As Popular As Ever!
Kay's popularity has not disipated...she's just has popular as she's ever been. The last 2 weeks have been busy with visitors!
Jessica Cipolla-Tario was in NY and able to come see Kay all the way from Las Vegas. They weren't able to get up and dance as they've done in the past but no doubt Kay will be ready next time Jessica's in town.
Magda was in from Poland (she gets the award for furthest travelled) to spend almost a week with Kay! She even got to go up to New Canaan and see the new house with Devin & Kay. Kay didn't remember the first visit a few weeks ago but after this last visit she definitely remembered and even talked about how happy she was with the blinds she had ordered. Lucky for Devin, she still seems very happy with the new digs!
Melissa came over to watch the Superbowl with Devin & Kay...or hang out with Kay while Devin watched the Superbowl.
And last Tuesday was a regular old party at Mt. Sinai. Magda was in town, Linda came down for a visit, Monica flew in and Monica's parents came by as well. A full house! We were lucky enough to be able to take Kay out to dinner again. Unfortunately, Kay was not as lucky when we caught her trying to order a shot of Vodka in her soda. It was a good try though! It wouldn't be Kay if she wasn't ordering a drink at the bar. She does seem to have changed her drink of choice though....we expected her to order a Jaeger Bomb, not a vodka shot. Maybe she thought this was more discreet....
Kay was excited about all the visitors and remembered each one of them. She did comment though that she was disappointed that she was stuck in the hospital with everyone visiting. If everyone's coming to see her she wants to get out and party. We assured her that once she is able to leave Mt. Sinai everyone will be there to party with her!
Kay's quick wit is sharper than ever...she quickly questioned Monica's mothering skills as Monica tried to help Kay with her sneakers....and truthfully was sucking at it! She just has to use this as a motivation to get out of Mt. Sinai so she can come help Monica out this summer!
Kay is getting stronger everyday and hopefully her desire to leave Mt. Sinai and get back to her new house with Devin will motivate her more and more everyday.
We apologize for the long delay in between posts but please know that Kay's progress continues to improve as a result of everyone's support and prayers. Kay truly is astounded when we tell her how many people are on the website leaving her notes of encouragement. She can't believe it is all for her.
Wish Kay and Devin a Happy Valentine's Day! Maybe Kay will get the chocolate fountain in her room she's been asking Devin for!

Kay's Debut!
I apologize for the delay but the pictures are finally up! Stephen, thanks for sending!
Now everyone can see just how beautiful Kay looks and how far she has come. It's such a miracle to see her enjoying a weekend at home with her family and husband! We can't wait for many more pictures of good times to come!
Kay is working hard at therapy this week. She never gives up! And obviously her hard work and is paying off. She's always been a fighter!
Kay may not know it but she has some special visitors coming soon. Jessica Cipolla is coming to visit.....she might actually be able to get Kay up and dancing again and Magda is coming in from Poland. What a great week it will be for Kay! She will be so excited!

Kay's Weekend Visits!
What a weekend Kay had! Not only did she get to go home to her own house for the day and visit with her family, but the trip went so well that Devin was given permission to take Kay up to her parent's house on Sunday!
Saturday's trip went very well. Stephen picked Kay and Devin up from the hospital and took them up to New Canaan. Bobette was nice enough to send a new outfit down for Kay's trip and she was very happy with it....we all know she's still very fashion conscious!
When Kay arrived at her house she said "Wow, this is nice". She said she felt like she had been there before but didn't completely remember it. When she saw that cards from her nieces congratulating her and Devin on their new home, she commented that she must have been there before.
Upon arriving Kay and Devin took a walk through the house and Kay quickly settled in. She loved the new blinds she had ordered. She and Devin also had their first disagreement about decorating the house, Devin commented that it could be furnished from Bob's Discount Furniture and they should install wall to wall carpeting. Kay made it clear to Devin that none of that would happen and that they would be putting down area rugs instead of wall to wall carpeting. Just because she hasn't been home in a few months doesn't mean she doesn't have any opinions. Kay did give in and let Devin hang a flat screen above the fireplace.
After the walk through Kay & Devin were able to relax for a while and take a nap in their own bed! Anything has to be better than the twin size hospital bed!
After the nap Cindy and Warren made a delicious dinner for the entire family. We're sure Kay appreciated a good home cooked meal!
On the ride back to the hospital Stephen asked that there would be no singing in the back seat which Kay immediately said she "could not make any guarantees that Devin would comply". She knows her husband!
Sunday Kay got a surprise by being able to go up to her parent's house for the day! Devin & Kay drove up to the house and again the entire family was there, even Sarah and Kayla were able to join!
Not only did Kay get to get out of the hospital but she also got to go get a manicure and pedicure! One of her favorite things!
While visiting Kay was able to cuddle up for a nap with Cindy, Sarah & Kayla and then enjoy another wonderful dinner at home....complete with dessert which she made sure was included! What's a big day out without some chocolate!
We're so happy that Kay, Devin and the family had such an amazing weekend! Just like a full time job Kay is back to physical therapy this week, but hopefully she'll be able to get out more often now! The visits have to be good for her rehabilitation also.
We have some pictures of the weekend that we will work on getting up on the website ASAP.
Please keep Kay & Devin in your thoughts and prayers. Who knows you may find them knocking on your door sometime soon!

Kay's 1st Visit Home!
What a milestone! This morning the doctors gave Devin permission to bring Kay up to their new house in New Canaan for the day tomorrow. This is incredible and a true testament to Kay's strength and her amazing recovery.
Kay has had trouble remembering her beautiful new house so this will be the perfect opportunity for her to spark her memory of her dream home. Kay's entire family will be there to greet her when she arrives home for the day tomorrow! Hopefully before long Devin will be bringing her back to New Canaan for good!
Kay is continuing to recover well from her surgery. Thankfully, she has had no sign of infection and the doctors hope to take out her stitches next week. In the meanwhile, Kay is continuing to work hard on her rehabilitation.
We'll update everyone on Kay's visit home soon!
Please continue to keep Kay & Devin in your thoughts and prayers...they are obviously working well!

Back To Rehab!
Kay is progressing well from her surgery and was able to go back to rehab this week! She doesn't stop fighting!
She is still on pain medications so she is slowly working back to where she was but it is wonderful that she is able to already be back and working on her recovery. Kay's been making such amazing progress that we know she would hate not to continue her hard work.
Please continue to keep Kay and Devin in your thoughts and prayers and she continues her recovery. She's working so hard and is truly amazed when she hears about all of the people her are leaving her well wishes!
Have a great weekend!

Kay Prevails Again!
Thankfully Kay's surgery went wonderfully last night!
Unfortunately, the surgery was delayed a few hours so the poor girl couldn't eat all day, but that didn't stop her from fighting!
Kay came out of the surgery wide awake and immediatly recognized Devin & Cindy. She was even lucid enough to tell Devin she loves him ask Cindy to stop playing with her hand because it was annoying. She just didn't understand how excited everyone was!
The doctor said the surgery went well and Kay looks wonderful...we hope she overheard this, even in the most difficult of times the girl is concerned with looking good!
Kay spent last night in the ICU and will be in the Neuro unit for the next few days before she returns back to rehab where we're sure she'll continue her fantastic progress!
We all have so much to be thankful for! 2008 is already proving to be a wonderful year!
Thank you for everyone's wonderful thoughts and prayers!

2008 Is Already Better!
2008 is already a proving to be a better year for Kay & Devin!
Kay continues to make amazing progress! There is nobody out there with more strength and willpower than our girl!
Kay's right side has gotten amazingly stronger! She has gained back a large portion of the movement in her right leg. As a result her walking is much better, she now needs minimal assistance-just someone to hold her arm-while walking. It's truly amazing! She even walks faster than most of us! Kay is continuing to work on strengthening her right arm and hand and is gaining movement in both. While she may find it annoying Devin has earned an honorary physical therapy degree with all the work he has been doing with her to gain back her strength.
While Kay still gets confused at times her memory is getting much better....longer term memory seems to be better than short term right now...it's incredible the things she remembers. Her personality is definitely apparent as well. More and more we see and hear Kay's humor, snide remarks or hilarious expressions that we know and love.
The doctors are so impressed with Kay's progress they have even given her permission to leave the hospital on occasion for a dinner out. Devin was able to take her out a few times last week to some of the restaurants around the hospital and last night Devin, Melissa, Monica and Devin's mother all were able to enjoy dinner out with Kay. It was so wonderful for Kay to get out with everyone for a bit!
Today, however is an extremely important day for Kay. This afternoon she will be having surgery to have the pieces of her skull that were removed put back in her head. A true testament to her amazing progress in 2 1/2 months! This a huge step for Kay! Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers everyday, but today especially. Kay was happy to learn about her surgery and had many questions for the anesthesiologist yesterday.
We apologize for the delay in updating the blog this past week or so, but as you can see it was well worth the wait! We will continue to keep everyone updated after Kay's surgery!
Have a healthy & happy new year!
