Good news! Kay's surgery went well and there is no infection! The doctors were able to keep the bone in her stomach for preservation!
Kay woke up from the anesthesia and was showing off her dimples! She was a little cranky that she still had the trach in, but that will come out in due time! We know Kay, she's probably dying to start talking! The doctors may start talking about putting a smaller tube in trach sometime soon to make her more comfortable! Small steps, but all in the right direction!
Thanksgiving is usually Kay's holiday to host her family and unfortunately she won't be able to do that this year. No doubt with her amazing progress, she's not going to be able to get out of it next year. Please keep Kay in your Thanksgiving prayers tomorrow and in honor of her contagious spirit share one of your favorite stories about her with your friends or family. Goodness knows, we all have many of them!
Happy Thanksgiving!
We Love You Kay!

Kay,
This is great news. You keep this progress up and you'll be home before you know it. You are an inspiration to all. Keep up the fight.
Every Thanksgiving day we all sit around the table and say what we are thankful for and this year it is going to be you and the remarkable progess you have made.
HAPPY TURKEY DAY.
GOD BLESS YOU.

Hi Kay!!!!
So happy the procedure went well yesterday-but your response to any challenge has always been unfailing. You have always tackled anything courageously with your glowing energy and contagious vitality!!! Love you Girl!

I have a story.
Growing up I had a thing for scaring my sisters. Not sure why but I grew out of it on or about 1991.
Lets start with Tina. She had come home from school and was walking up the road no doubt bouncing her feather haired head to the beat of a Duran Duran song. She was happy- but not for long. I turned over a few chairs, took the phone off the hook, put ketchup on my shirt and spread out on the living room floor. Poor unsuspecting Tina- she opened the door, screamed and ran next door to her best friend Kristies house (who was probably busy frenching her new boyfriend outside of her house) I ran outside to laugh. Tina started screaming expletives. I got a punch but it didn't hurt.
What about Cindy- Cindy was a difficult one. Everytime I planned out my detailed scare strategy, she was a no show. Most times she didn't come home when she was supposed to and I ended up getting tired and bored with the waiting game. I would go to my room and doze off playing atari.
Ah Kathleen- it started out being a glorious plan. I was still a little bitter that she was able to learn to drive stickshift and now we had another driver to share Blue Steel. This was was going to best scare ever!!! I situated myself under the stairs, skillyfully covered by a comforter. I heard the downstairs door open. My heart was racing anticipating that she was going to pee herself with fright. How Cool! I jumped out and yelled. ***Immediate Darkness and Pain*** Kathleen had kicked me in the face!! Not punched or slapped-She KICKED me-I think it was a roundhouse. Remember this was pre-Crouching Tiger days. It was right then and there as my nose was bleeding that I determined scaring my sisters was no longer fun.

Feel better Cindy!
Kay,
I am so happy to hear that things went well for you yesterday. As thanksgiving is tomorrow, I am relecting on what I am thankful for......I am so thankful for having you in my life and for the great friendship that we share. I am also thankful for the great progress you are making. Continue to be strong, as you are doing a great job!
Love,
Melissa
I have to say - that story from Stephen made me laugh out loud. Kay has been in my thoughts ever since I heard about the fall - so have all the O'Meara's. Its been quite sometime but I can't think of a dull moment whenever I was hanging out with any of you. Especially at that house which was always filled wih kids! When Stephen mentioned "Blue Steel" I am pretty sure he is talking about that jeep that wouldn't die. Every time I saw that thing crusing around town I was sure to get a wave or a honk from one of the O'Meara's behind the wheel. It sounds like Kathleen is in good hands and she is getting better every day. Although I am sure its a difficult time, I am so happy to hear about and talk about the good things we all remember and are thankful for like good friends, old and new, family and continuing good health.
Love Tara C
Keep up the good work Kay! Keeping you in in my thoughts and prayers. Tomorrow's Thanksgiving has a new meaning for so many... Have a blessed day.

Dear Kay and Family, We continue to check in and see how everyone is doing. It is great to read about your steady progress, Kay. Thank you for continuing to update this blog. We wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. This is certainly a holiday season to celebrate!!! Love, Warren and Kathy McMillan
Kay,
I am sitting here laughing so hard at Stephen's story! Hysterical and I can totally picture him hiding under the stairs.....I remember a lot of O'Meara clan stories, most are not appropriate to tell because I think I would be telling self-incriminating stories and well with dad being a judge and all I'm thinking I am better off keeping those stories to myself! Other than spending many a night sleeping on the floor between Kay and Cindy's beds after a night of debauchery (usually falling asleep to Willy Wonka or something) there is one night that pops into my head!
Fact - the O'Meara clan is tough, no one can debate that, however, there stomachs, not so tough...so here I am sitting in the kitchen with all of the O'Meara kids except maybe Tina, but I can't be sure...anyway, we are all huddled in the kitchen scarfing down pizza and david starts telling some completely disgusting story which leads to cindy yacking in the kitchen sink...I know, gross right? what took me by surprise was the chain reaction that occurred...immediately after Cindy finished, Kay began and immediately following Kay went Stephen....there I am in complete awww at the synchronized spew and david laughing so hard that he is literally crying which of course made me laugh and cry and luckily not throw up....ahhh good times! If you have ever witnessed this before, and I am sure if you have been around the clan for any proplonged period of time that you have seen this, it is simply a phenomenon!
Hey you never know who is going to be reading this thing so I had to keep it G rated....that story was the best I could do...the end of the rest of the stories usually involved us narrowly escaping trouble!
In any event, this Thanksgiving I will be thinking of you all and you as well Devin! My family will keep you all in their thoughts and prayers!

Kay....You know every year we do the "secret santa" on Thanksgiving and "we never tell who has who, right ;)" Well, as usual I'm telling, David got you and you got me, how ironic!!! All I need for Christmas from you is a phone call(preferably 6-12 times a day!!) or in Jan, Feb, Mar, Arp, May....etc., whenever you're ready.
Sorry, I couldn't visit today, I look like a garbage pail kid (you know what that means).
with love always,
Cindy
